Dear Parents,
Recently the students at Maplewood and Lakeview Montessori worked on their gymnastics unit. In this unit they worked on jumping, landing, rolling, balancing and safety basics.
Hopefully, when you read this the snow has melted for the year. Research has demonstrated that everyone can benefit from daily moderate to vigorous activity. Children should try to accumulate 60 minutes or more of physical activity each day.
It is important that your child is active outside of gym class. Parents are excellent role models for children. Here are some family fitness activities that you and your child can do together:
Go for a bike ride
Play catch
Shoot baskets
Go for a walk
Move around to music
Play a game of tag
Go to a playground
Invent a game and play it
Rake the lawn
Create an exercise routine
We still have some students forgetting gym shoes. Please be sure to send them to school with your child.
Yours truly,
Ed Burchardt
