Maplewood Elementary School is a Wisconsin School Promise.  The students, staff, parents and community earned this recognigtion for having a very high rate of student achievement while at the same time having a majority of our students living in poverty.

 

As a result of being a Wisconsin School of Promise, our teachers were eligible to apply for a teacher fellowship.  Kathy Zay, Kim Thole, Rebecca Toetz, Diane Everson and Angie Klass were awarded a fellowship to travel to Costa Rica to study the varying biomes in the region.  In return, they will use what they have learned from this experience to provide rigorous and relevant learning opportunities back at Maplewood.

 

The teachers are in Costa Rica June 5th through the 12th, 2010.  They will be blogging throughout the trip and the 2010/2011 school year.  You can check out the trip and the projects at the link below.
