At Maplewood Elementary School, we take seriously the concerns and positive comments from our families. This year, we gave parents a chance to provide us input through and end of the year survey. We certainly welcome all the positive comments. More important, are the recommendations for improvement.

-Communication has been great.
-The teachers and staff have been awesome with my children.
-Bigger parking lot.
-Like that students go to different rooms for different classes, they become more independent.
-My child loves tutoring and feels very special since it is more one on one.
-Maplewood is my favorite elementary school in Sparta, I am very impressed with our teachers and staff.
-Small, homey atmosphere; like a small country school. Everyone is very friendly and makes me and the children feel welcome.

-I did not like the way K/1 multiage was taught this year. It seemed like the first graders were redoing things. Other teachers made comments that the K/1 students were behind.
-All school supplies should be sent home at the end of the year so they can be reused. Should require that markers are washable, lots of clothes ruined.
-Need more activities.

-Teachers and staff are awesome with my children. The communication has been great.
-I like getting all the families involved in Thanksgiving dinner, pot luck, parent/teacher conferences.
-I have been very happy with Maplewood and could ask for a better teacher for my son.
-I actually like that it is a small school.
-Wondering if there is some internal conflict. Things seem different this year to everyone, including parents and students.
-I was not impressed with the multi-age this year. It appeared to be unorganized and my son was left behind in instruction.
-It is always warm and inviting when parents enter the school.

-All of the evenings throughout the year-movie nights, book fairs, dance, etc.
-Too many soliciting of funds for the school.
-Have a Christmas program, not just a spring.

-Very happy to have my child at Maplewood. Teachers have helped him on an individual basis and gave him extra challenges and kept him interested.
-School counselor should be made more available.

-I liked the Title program because my son was making progress. The program was cut and he fell way behind and sent him somewhere else for help.
-I think they should bring back the Title program or else the school should donate $7,500 to every child with a reading problem to go to Sylvan.
-There should be bigger consequences for repeat bullying and better supervision at recess and lunch. Lots of things going on out there.
-Teachers are very caring and dedicated to the students!
-I would like them to provide testing for learning disabilities.
-I really like the way they work with my child. I love that they offer the CLC and breakfast. I adore the receptionist she is very friendly and shows she cares.
-I would change parents having to hear students having emotional breakdowns in the late afternoons when parents are picking up their children. Causes the parents to wonder what's going on.
-Most of the staff is very welcoming which makes the kids more at ease and ready to learn.
-They need to crackdown on the classes that have more disruptive children and give those teachers the help they need as to not disrupt the learning of those in the class that don't need the extra attention/discipline.
-Challenge the students more in spelling.
-Really like the math program.
-Would like to have off on federal holidays. Respect the Nation's heritage and legacy that men and women have fought to protect.
-Really like the activities the school provides.
-Really like that the teachers are welcoming to my child and me and listens. They respect my child and my opinions if we have concerns. If I have question, they respond back.
-Would like smaller class sizes, though I realize this is funding related. We can all dream can't we?

-We are very pleased with the education our child received at Maplewood. We just wish it went higher than third grade. Keep up the great work! It is appreciated!

-Someone needs to pay very close attention to most of the aides and how they do their jobs.

-There are so many wonderful things about Maplewood compared to the elementary schools she attended before.

-Be able to have your child go put his/her things in their lockers by themselves. They are big children. Should be able to show that they can put their things away in their locker without having to carry them until they can go to their locker.
-I would like to see Maplewood allow the holiday parades and parties again. This was the first year they weren't when other schools had theirs.
-Really like that respect and dignity is instilled in each child and adult.
-Really like awareness, commitment and involvement in their communities (school, city and various needs of the broader community for health, environment, child concerns, etc.)
-Really like the encouragement and helping each other in the learning process.
-Wonderful teachers and personnel.
-It is a joy each morning to know that I am leaving my child, not only in an excellent teaching environment, but also in as safe and caring on as is possible. Thank you all!
-I love that the principal is willing to talk to parents and is very approachable.
-The only thing I would change is going beyond 3rd grade.
